Aroldis Chapman becomes fastest pitcher to reach 500 strikeouts

Reds closer Aldonis Chapman recorded his 500th strikeout in 292 innings, breaking the previously held record.

Cincinnati closer Aroldis Chapman aka “The Cuban Missile” has set a major-league record for the fastest to reach 500 career strikeouts, accomplishing the feat in 292 innings. The previous record was 305 innings, set by San Diego Padres closer Craig Kimbrel.

Chapman pitched two scoreless innings on Sunday, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out five batters. However the Reds fell 5–3 to the Indians in 11 innings.

In case you were wondering: the current record for the fastest pitcher to reach 1000 career strikeouts is Kerry Wood, accomplishing the feat in 853 innings.
